Message It really depends on what you buy and far you take it.

For example, the popular SZ Hi-5 clutch and RPS flywheel will run you pretty much $1000 by themselves.

Or sure, you can buy a used tranny for around $200 and install it. But you can easily spend another $100 to $200 refurbing it (seals, pivot arm, pivot ball, fluid flush and replace, dust boots...)

Same comment on the shifter and linkages.... Do you reuse the stocker or install that short shifter while you are at it? New or used? New leather shift knob and boot as well, or just reuse the 20yr old one? ZSpeed solid shifter mount or OEM shifter mount? If OEM, new or used?

I don't dispute your number. I probably did overspend a little on refurbishing but my logic is simple - the wear components and maybe even the fluid with your $200 tranny are possibly 20 years old. Why not swap them out so you have a new known baseline if you can afford it? (especially if you are planning on cranking up the HP at he same time)
